The Inter-State Council in India is a constitutional body established under Article 263 of the Indian Constitution. It serves as a consultative forum to discuss and investigate policies, subjects of common interest, and disputes among states and between the Centre and states. The Council aims to promote cooperative federalism by facilitating dialogue and cooperation, resolving disputes, and ensuring that policies are formulated with the collective input of all stakeholders. The President of India can establish the Council whenever it is deemed necessary for the public interest. The Council's composition includes the Prime Minister as the Chairman, Chief Ministers of all states, and other Union ministers as members. Despite its potential to enhance federal harmony, the Council faces challenges such as irregular meetings and limited authority.
